Who says Hounds make great family dogs?

Hounds are great family dogs!  They are typically very gentle with kids, very easy going, love to play and they seem to have a sense of humor.  Nothing will keep you laughing like a hounds silly antics.

We aren't the only ones to think so.  See below who else agrees.  Many of these sites recommend beagles as good family dogs.  For those looking for a larger dog with the same lovely personality, hounds are the perfect choice.

"Many breeds in the hound family are very good with children. They are good-natured and have a very positive outlook on life..."

"Beagles (which are small hounds) are happy-go-lucky and friendly, making them a wonderful family pet. They are also favored for their compact size and short, easy-to-care-for coat. Since they lived in packs for hundreds of years, they naturally enjoy the company of other dogs and humans. Curious and comedic, they often follow their noses -- which can lead to some mischief if they are not provided with daily activity."

"While your beagle most likely won’t have a bird named Woodstock as his best friend, you can, by all means, name him (or her) Snoopy. Originally kept as hunting dogs, Beagles fit well in homes with active kids, as they are sturdily built and never too tired to play a game. Smart, friendly, and happy, the Beagle usually gets along with other pets, too (except for a bit of chasing here and there)."
